We had some rain yesterday; 0.17 inches. Today the wind is blowing, 35 mph earlier, but the soil is still moist. Last night it got down to 56o so not too chilly. Today's high is forecast for 65o. Not too bad for early fall.

We've been getting some rain showers the last week or so, about 1/2" worth. Got a bit last night too. Temps have lowered out of the 80s and 90s, mostly low 70s and upper 60s nowadays.
Next Wednesday is supposed to be a high of 45 and a low of 26... . That's too cold too soon!!
I sold my big snowblower, but have my snow shovels at the ready. My driveway's not as big as at Gillette, and there's no sidewalks on this side of the street.

OK, I gave in and turned on the furnace. Two nights below 30 makes it cold inside. Daytime temps have been nice in the mid 60s. Today we got 0.04 inch of rain.

Had a touch of rain yesterday and some snow flakes mixed in. Low last night was 29, they're saying 26 tonight. Sunny today, high 48, then warming into some 60s.
In Gillette last Monday they got 12-18", depending on where you were. My sister said that typically it will now warm up to fall weather again.

We are getting some rain. Not even half an inch but more expected. We are on the far outer edge of the cyclone that is currently off the west coast. They expect it to be equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane. (hurricanes are in the Atlantic and cyclones are in the Pacific) The entire west coast, BC to CA, needs as much rain as possible.

That'd sure be nice if y'all get that rain! Nobody wants flooding, but it will take lots of rain to ease the drought. Then there's the threat of mud slides in the fire scars! Seems like one type of disaster often brings on others!!

We ended up with 0.29 inches of rain yesterday. That is more than all the rain since March.

Today we had sunny and 75. Tomorrow will be cloudy, 55 and a 90% chance of up to 1/4" of rain. Pretty drastic change! Oh well, that's autumn.

Last night was the first time this season that the temperature dropped below 32o, rather late in the season. It got down to 23o so a bit of a shock. We are going through the normal November winds. Several days with winds 25-35 mph. So far this month we have had 0.98 inch of rain. The rainy season usually starts in January but we need it. This makes it a total of 3.18 inches since 1 January. Historic average is 6 inches per year so we are well below what we need.
Drought conditions are measured by the D index; D1-D4. Eastern WA, OR, central east CA into central NV and part of central MT all are D4 Exceptional Long term drought. From 1895 to 2021 drought tends to run in 20 year cycles. This cycle began around 2000 with the wettest years around 2009-2017 and 2001 as dry as this year, so maybe we will see more moisture in a couple years. 1960 through 1975 all were slightly wetter so most of us old folks remember those years and think that was the normal.
Below is from NOAA
Long-term drought remains entrenched in the West. Parts of every western state were in drought at the end of the month (October) with 91% of the region in at least moderate drought (D1) according to the US Drought Monitor.
Benton County data from NOAA
wettest October was in 2021, over the past 127 years driest year to date in 127 years occurred in 2021 No Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service No Air Quality Warning issued by the National Weather Service No Wildfire in Benton

This unusually warm weather is actually becoming scary. It is so very dry. The fires yesterday in Montana, the lack of snow for ski slopes, the absence of water all over the region.
We have been in the 50s all this week and even farther back. We are way under normal for precipitation.
I'm not fond of winter, but it's time for some snow!

Today is the first day of this season where our high temperature is to be below freezing, at 28º. Low tonight is to be 8º. We got a smattering of snow last night after a bit of rain yesterday afternoon. Should warm a little through the weekend.

Yes we have been having some winds. Even though the temperature got up to 55o it was not pleasant.
A tumbleweed wall covered the entire front facade of the Pasco Walmart, blocking entrances to the store so customers had to push their way through the dry plants.
Wind gusts in the area topped 50 mph, with the National Weather Service showing Rattlesnake Mountain ridge reached 102 mph.
Snow plows have been out pushing tumbleweeds off the roadways.
