In the last 2 days we've gotten .46" of rain here in Montrose!! What a glorious gift! We've been having days in the 90s since we got here, but it cooled to the 80s for those two days, and that was a gift too. 88 for today, then some more 90s.
We've had a lot of smoke in the air for several days, but today the sky is nice and blue. No large fires in our area that I'm aware of.

Today was beautiful. For the first time in two months the temperature was less than 90o. Today's high was only 82o, humidity around 25%, cloudy all day with winds around 15 mph. Overnight is forecast for mid 60s. Might open the windows overnight.
The smoke has been going around us both to the north and south and going into Montana and Idaho. Our air has been clean.
Tomorrow the heat returns with a heat advisory.
Since 1 January we have had 1.42 inches of rain. 0.92 inches was in January/February. This is a very dry year though there was a lot of snow in the mountains and the rivers are still high.
Description ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...
WHAT...Afternoon temperatures from 98 to 108 with overnight lows in the low to mid 70s possible.

The term was never used in Wyoming, but in this part of the nation they talk of the "monsoon season". Apparently we're in it now because we've been having afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Not every day, but there are threats of them daily. According to the Weather Channel we've had only 0.26" this week, but lots of lightening, thunder and wind. I have no idea how long this "season" lasts, but every bit of rain is appreciated. High temps have been upper 80s and lower 90s, cooling nicely when the clouds roll in.

Early in the week the forecast showed Sunday with a high of 89o with a 45% chance of rain. Gradually it has changed and now shows a high of 98o with a 12% chance of rain. Next week it is back up to 105o. It would be nice to see some rain but I don't expect it.
I have heard of the monsoon season around this time of year in Arizona/New Mexico. You must be on the northern end of this area. Heard about quite a bit of flash flooding this week around Moab, UT and Phoenix as well as a good portion of Arizona, southern Utah and Colorado.

Yeah, we're quite close to the famous 4-corners area where UT, CO, AZ and NM all meet. I understand it now costs to visit there...the local tribes are charging.
Anyway there have been a number of flash flood warnings the last couple weeks in our general area. The western slope of the Rockies is land with lots of canyons and dry creeks. When heavy rains do occur, the runoff can be quite severe. Add to that that some of those slopes have burned in the last few years, so moisture and soil retention is reduced, and it increases the chances of flash floods. I've not heard of any damage in these parts, but there have been mud slides that have closed I-70 several times lately. And over on the Front Range (the eastern face of the Rockies) there have been floods there that have done damage and killed some people. I guess severe storms can occur just about everywhere just about any time of year.

Apparently our monsoon season is over. Suddenly the clouds are gone and temps are warmer, back to upper 80s and lower 90s. Chances of rain are way low again.

Another stretch of hot weather. Forecast for 110 on Saturday. The winds have changed direction so now we are getting all the smoke. Couldn't see the sun at all today.
Washington Emergency Management Division
There are heat warnings all over the state with triple digit heat expected in some places in the days to come, although this is not expected to be as bad as what we saw in June.
From today's paper: A drought in eastern Washington state that is the worst since 1977 has devastated what is normally the fourth-largest U.S. wheat crop.
So if the price of flour and wheat goes up you know why.

Had a brief t-storm yesterday morning that lasted just long enough to get me out of bed, out to my truck to close the windows...and then it stopped.
Today we are to be 92. Tomorrow we get 3 days of mid-70s, then some 80s, and then some 90s...basically like late August. There is a chance of some rain on the cool days...hope so!

Yesterday was another 102o day. Today's high is 75o. It is cloudy but it feels so good. In the past two months we have only had a few days when the overnight low was 75o. Back to the 80s and 90s for the next two weeks but it looks like those super hot days are over for the year. Still no rain on the forecast but we should get some rain come October.

What a change!! Wednesday evening the clouds rolled in and temps dropped. Yesterday we got to only 65 degrees and it rained off and on all day, we got 0.53". This morning when we got up it was 45 degrees. I saw a forecast of snow in the high mountains, haven't seen any reports yet on that. Supposed to go to 75 today with full sunshine. There's some haze in the air, not sure if that's smoke or humidity...our little in-home weather station shows our relative humidity right now at an amazing 88%!!
Warming back to some low 90s by the middle of next week.

Tonight we have clear skies. The overnight low is forecast as 46o. Mid 80s the rest of the week.
This morning around 0630 went to get things out of the truck. It sure felt cold out, don't know what the temperature was.
I will stop complaining about the heat but soon will be complaining about the cold.
No, you can't make me happy.
