Spent the 4th with friends and left after most of the fireworks were completed around 10:00. Found myself driving through part of the residential area of nice peaceful West Richland. There were no street blocked signs or anything restricting traffic. The street was lined with a lot of parked cars so I was driving extra slow. All of a sudden I see a bunch of kids in the middle off the street lighting some fireworks. I stop to let them set it off. As I slowly started to drive away I was swarmed by a group of teens/twenty something individuals. A woman in her mid 30s came up to my window and screamed something about I should know it was the 4th and shouldn't be driving there. It was scary being surrounded like that. I inched forward afraid I might hit someone. Heard three bangs on the side of the truck, don't know if they kicked it or hit it with something. The next morning I checked the side of the truck. Possibly a new dent, some scuff marks and the side mirror is broken.
Lesson learned: Even the calmest upscale neighborhoods can be dangerous. Keep your doors locked. After dark be careful of where you are driving.

Shaking my head. Used to be parents didn't let their kids play in the streets...there were vacant lots to use. Used to be parents didn't let their kids shoot fireworks unsupervised, especially in streets. Used to be people moved out of the way to let traffic go by (if they were even in the street at all). Used to be people respected other people no matter whether they were in the streets or not. Used to be no-one would ever touch someone else's vehicle because they respected others' property.
Dangerous activity everywhere...and the left wants to take away our guns!!
All y'all stay safe out there!

This area is less than half a mile from the school with a large parking area and sports fields. On the back side of the school is over 100 acres of alfalfa fields, though the farmer might not have been happy with the waste materials falling on his crops. There is also a large church with a parking lot and large grass area about three blocks away. About a mile away is a huge sports complex with picnic areas, baseball fields and soccer fields. These areas would have been safer. Or they could have put up some traffic cones.
I understand that not everyone wants to go down to the river and watch the Fire on the River with the professional display.
When I was in Butte the school about a half mile away had 8 soccer fields. Many of the neighbors on the south of town would gather for a large 4th display and enjoy each others' explosions. This was never officially organized and you never knew how many would bring what. There was plenty of parking and not much that would catch fire as the fields were kept well watered.
