There have been a number of cougar sightings in the past couple months. Last night there were some calls about a cougar in a housing development. The sheriff's department responded to try and locate the cougar until someone realized that the cougar was stalking the officers. Fish and Wildlife responded and saved the officers by killing the cougar.
Over the past few years the local police have gotten plenty of experience herding cattle, horses, goats and llamas that got loose and getting them back home. It appears now that they need more training on wildlife.

I feel so badly for the wild animals. We have driven them from their natural homes and encroached on their adopted habitat to the point that they have run out of ground. We've driven some to extinction or near-extinction. People are building homes and recreation sites in areas that used to be animal habitat. Then they get upset when the animals do what comes naturally to them. Deer, coyotes and other critters in cities is a common thing now. Bears and cougars in subdivisions are an almost daily occurrence. Yet we continue to build more and more into their range and complain more and more about their presence.
