The Kruger Rock Fire started yesterday just outside Estes Park, Colorado. That's not very close to home ( +/- 300 miles ), but it's very close to heart. Our oldest daughter Shannon and hubby Joseph live there and had to mandatory evacuate. So far they are still not allowed back home. Maybe they can get home tomorrow..
The fire is at 145 acres in very steep and rugged terrain, with lots of homes in the area. Yesterday winds were gusting over 50 mph, but today were much lower. Temp yesterday was in the 50s, today maybe got to 30 with a small snow shower. A single-engine slurry tanker aircraft crashed, killing the pilot...God rest his soul.
UPDATE: They were told they could change to voluntary evac at 18:00 hours, but decided they'd stay this night with some friends due to shifting winds. Likely home tomorrow.

We don't think of wild fires in November but they do happen. The winds do not help any. Hope all stay safe.

They got to go home yesterday, overriding the voluntary evac, but were glad to get home. They said their house didn't smell of smoke, and power had been restored early on so no food was lost in refrigerators or freezers. Sounds like no buildings were lost at all.
Yeah, with things being so dry, wildfires can spring up most any time!! And with more people living "closer to nature" the threats to life and property will continue to increase.

Glad to hear they suffered no loss and just mild inconvenience. Fire is a scary thing!
