This is the view across the road from my place a couple hours ago. The event was sold out for both days. Parking is way inadequate. Cars were parked on the highway a mile in each direction. Our neighborhood streets were packed. One of my neighbors had people parking in their front yard. I needed to run into town and almost couldn't get out because they parked right to the edge of both sides of my driveway. When Greg Biffle was looking at the track he wanted to buy a few acres from the alfalfa rancher next to the track. If the track is going to succeed they must have more parking.
top left corner of the photo is my house.

West Richland, WA - It's been 17 years since the last official racing event was held on Tri-city raceway until today.
"This track right now is in better shape than it was when it was absolutely brand new in 1968." said Ron Bennett, Announcer at Tri-City Raceway. In West Richland Tri-city raceway project actually started about 100 days ago, and so in about 100 days they were able to finish this brand new race track. "You pull in here today and it looks like a Winston Cup event, my jaw was on the ground when I first pulled in here." said Terry Bridges, Motor Sports Monday Podcast. "I knew it was going to be big, but I had no idea it was going to be this big." So massive that the line to get in wrapped all the way down the street.
"There's probably 3-4 thousand people here today and we've got another 500 cars out here waiting to get in to this event." said Bennett. The amount of people at the raceway is astonishing but and the feeling someone gets when they are racing "There is nothing about racing oval track stalk car racing, you cannot beat the sights sounds and the smell of racing here on an oval track." said Bennett. Yakima Speedway did close down this year but Tri-city Raceway plans on speeding it's way up the charts for the best raceway in the Pacific North West.

There are plenty of big sports events and highlights as we enter the weekend in the Mid-Columbia.
Perhaps the most intriguing sports event will happen in West Richland, where the Fall Classic will be held at the newly remodeled Tri-City Raceway at Red Mountain Event Center.
Thanks to a large number of volunteers and donors, the old Tri-City Raceway has risen like a Phoenix from the ashes of a track that last had a race in 2005.
Event officials are expecting well over 200 race teams to compete in six different classifications.
This event had been held for years at Yakima Speedway, but the track closed down earlier this year.

I'm really glad to hear that these first races are being so popular. It gives the teams a place to run their hard-worked-on cars, and it gives race fans someplace to go. It's good for the sport and good for the community. TCR, lead on!!

They were fast at trying to correct the parking problem. For the second day of the racing they made arrangements to use the parking lot at a school about a mile away and had a shuttle bus. That eliminated the parking on the highway and most of the parking in our neighborhood. I am sure they had a lot of lessons learned that they will work on before the next race.

. That's awesome to see that they addressed the problem so quickly! Now, if the govt had been running that... .
