Woke up this morning and it was 59o inside. I keep the thermostat programed for 65o during sleeping hours. Check on the thermostat and the screen is black. The furnace is 20 years old so I figure on a major expense. Who do I call for help? What company is reliable?
Had an 7:30 appointment with the Red Cross so went to that and got home around noon. Take another look at the thermostat and there in the lower corner in tiny tiny letters it says "low battery." I installed the programmable thermostat well over 15 years ago and never touched it other than to change the programming when I leave on a long trip. Didn't know that it had batteries. I did have spare batteries on hand. Installed them. Now I have heat. Glad that it was an easy fix.

My thermostat in Gillette gets it's power from the regular electric service, no batteries. The one here in Montrose is battery powered, so I change them every fall when we come down.
I can't believe your batteries lasted that long!!...that's astounding!! Very fortunate that was the problem.
