Yesterday we had winds all day. Didn't think much of it until Ginny sent me a news article with a photo on Hwy 240 near me. Didn't think that our tumbleweed storm would make national news.
Mid day I wanted to go into town. It was in a brown-out caused by the dirt being picked up from all the farmers' empty fields. Tried to close the garage door but the blowing sand kept triggering the sensor that stops the door from closing. OK, just have to wait until the wind direction changes. Played dodge the tumbleweeds while driving down the highway. In this game you have to ensure that there is no oncoming traffic that also are dodging tumbleweeds. Anything less than 3 feet in diameter you drive through. It is those big ones that may be 5-7 feet in diameter that make driving fun. It would be one thing if they stayed at ground level but you also have ones flying at you from above. Nothing like having a 4 foot ball coming straight at your windshield.
Yesterday was trash pick-up day. We were lucky that the garbage truck came by before the winds picked up. But where is my trash can now? It blew around the garage and is in the back yard.
The 15 foot between the house and garage has a couple dozen big (3-4 foot) tumble weeds that piled up starting at the dog's kennel. Was able to make a path to the garage door. On the opposite end, at the roll-up door, there was enough space to get the car out. Will wait until the winds stop before cleaning up. If I am lucky most will blow away and be someone else's problem.
