We have Gillette friends, Larry & Judy, who also own a house in Montrose. They inherited it from her folks. They come down 2-3 times a year for various reasons and use the house for lodging.
When we got ready to come down last week, Raine absolutely detests driving by herself for 600 miles. I took pity on her, so we were going to rent a U-Haul trailer (at $300) to carry the car, and pull it with the pickup. But Larry & Judy had to make a trip down for some house repairs, so they suggested we drive the car down full of stuff. Then when they drove back to Gillette, I could ride with them, get the pickup, already full of stuff, and bring it down.
So that's what we did. Last Thursday they and I returned to Gillette. I spent Friday finishing loading the pickup and do some yardwork. Then, since Sunday was forecast for snow/rain and colder, I drove back to Montrose yesterday, which was a warm day but windy. I used some more gas because of poorer mileage, but we saved $300 by not renting a trailer for the car! But, I've now traveled that route three times in the last week, 1800 miles...that's enough!
So today I will unload the pickup and hopefully we can find room for everything!

Good way to do it. Save some money but spend your time.
