I was born and raised in Gillette, and have lived here except for 2 yrs of college and 6 yrs of Air Force. About an hour ago we had the most severe t-storm that I have ever seen!
It blew in from the northwest and dumped rain and 3/8" hail for about 20 minutes. The wind tore 8-10 inch tree limbs off and threw them into yards and the streets. Leaves and twigs blocked the storm drains, so the water had nowhere to go, finding its way through yards, including ours. We have two huge blue spruce trees in our front yard, and the water washed years of needle duff from under them and spread it out over our side and back yards in its flow downgrade. The street to our south was 2/3 blocked by fallen tree limbs. Our house was covered with stripped-off leaves... I just finished hosing them off. We lost power for about 30 minutes during and after the storm. I did see a few places of siding damage...chipped off pieces. I'll have to check the roof tomorrow. I'm anxious to learn how much water we got.
I've seen some powerful storms here over the years, but this was torrential rain and hail, and hurricane-force winds. The temp dropped from 80 to 53 in about 10 minutes. Visibility was reduced to about a block for at least 10 minutes of the storm. The alley behind us was flowing probably a foot and a half to two feet deep, and I'd guess 30 mph at least. Our basement appears dry, but I know some places lower than ours have water in them. LOTS of cleanup to do over the next week!!
