Back when I was a kid and young adult, the United States had a reputation of being able to take care of itself and its friends. When some other country started making noise, we'd bark at them, and they knew we could and would bite if needed.
Fast forward to today, I really wonder what our status is in the world. We still do a lot of barking, but I think the world views us more as a yappy little dog, merely irritating the neighborhood, rather than the big dog on the block. We've done some nipping at the heels of the other dogs (Iran, Russia, N. Korea, ISIS, and more), but haven't maintained a reputation of, or, I fear, the capability of, taking on the big fight if needed.
Israeli Prime Minister Netenyahu today told the world about Iran's potential threat to the world. Our president, all of his cabinet, and a bunch of democratic congressmen chose to not attend the speech. I'll not here get into my opinions of why they did that.
What I will say is, why does our administration refuse to recognize the threats to world stability from Iran? Why do they refuse to see the danger to the world as a whole? Obviously our current administration didn't learn anything from the totally unproductive negotiations that went on with North Korea during and after the Korean Conflict in the early 50s. Nor was anything learned from the same efforts with North Vietnam in the 1970s.
Isn't the potential of war enough evidence to prepare for war? Our president has stripped our military of significant numbers of high-ranking leaders. He has reduced our military budget over the years. His policies have destroyed the moral of our troops. His actions have reduced America's standing in the world to where we're now that yapping puppy instead of the well-supported dog capable of winning any fight it is forced into.
Israel is literally next door to Iran. A nuclear-capable Iran could wipe out Israel before any other country in the world could lift a finger to prevent it. The entire Middle East would explode, and WWIII would be on! And we are NOT prepared to win that war.
Well, what WWIII would do is destroy the world as we know it, and make life very difficult for everyone. We need to arm ourselves to the point that no-one would want to start a war like that! We need to stop renegade Iran from achieving that ability to start it. There are already enough countries that can do it!
