I remember the year they came by and told us to prepare to evacuate. I loaded the truck and walked through the house picking up things I needed and identifying things I could live without. It makes you thing about your priorities. Two cats and a dog and their carriers took up a lot of space in the truck. A few changes of clothes, computer because it contained important data but left the monitor behind, photo albums. Many sentimental items left behind. We were in luck because when the fire jumped the river the firefighters managed to stop it with only 10 acres burned. The other side of the river lost 12 homes.
The neighbors with children left when they told us to prepare. The neighbors loaded up their horses and goats and everyone had their vehicles in the driveways facing the street. We gathered in the street listening to the radio until abut 2 in the morning. Hope I never have to go through that again. Things are supper dry and another few weeks of historical high temperatures are expected..
